Christmas at Blithewold - 2007 My Favorite Things
Presented by Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum
This holiday tradition draws thousands annually to the brightly lit Mansion on Narragansett Bay. The 18' tree in the entrance hall sets the scene with the theme, My Favorite Things, and continues through every roon, hallway and staircase lavishly decorated with plenty of imagination and whimsy. Festive music fills the air and the Holiday Gift Shop offers unique gifts and seasonal decorations, including many used in the mansion. [Details >]

Christmas at Linden Place Mansion

Linden Place Mansion will be decked for the holidays in a “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” theme, by volunteers from the Bristol and Bayberry Garden Clubs and designers Alfred Brazil and Lori Sendroff of Alfred’s antiques. The dining room and parlors of Linden Place Mansion will be elegantly festooned by Mr. Brazil and Ms. Sendroff and joining them in creating fabulous holiday décor will be Jeff Giancastro of Jeff and Company. Jeff has designed events for Elizabeth Taylor, the Academy Awards, and numerous other Hollywood celebrities Surprises await the visitor in every room of Linden Place, from the crèche in the conservatory to the beautifully decorated parlor rooms and the magnificently draped four story spiral staircase by Jeff and Company. Tour participants of every age will love our living wax museum featuring our own History Kids dressed in period costume stationed about the mansion to answer questions about the museum and furnishings. 8 December White Horses in the Dark: Winter Solstice Traditions in Ireland and Britain
Presented by Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology
Kate Chadbourne returns to the Haffenreffer Museum to discuss Celtic traditions of the winter solstice in the British Isles as we head into the darkest part of the year! From the earliest archaeological records of Newgrange in Ireland to modern midwinter "horseplay" in southern Wales, Dr. Chadbourne will explore Celtic midwinter traditions of proverbs, stories, customs and beliefs meant to set the sun anew on its lifegiving travels. Come to Bristol to see and experience these traditional Celtic arts first-hand. Kate Chadbourne performs regularly as a singer, musician and story-teller. These ever popular “little ones” will be stationed throughout the mansion to answer questions about the museum and furnishings. Sunday’s day long program of musical entertainment will delight all with students from Mt. Hope High School providing choral and instrumental music. For a perfect ending to their visit, guests can stroll across the driveway to the ballroom where fireside refreshments await them. A special treat for all will be a Christmas program by Michael DiMucci on Saturday evening, December 8th, in the Linden Place ballroom. Homes for the Holidays House Tour

The Friends of Linden Place will host its 16th annual Homes for the Holidays House Tour in historic Downtown Bristol. The tour includes several select homes, from colonial to contemporary in style, including historic Linden Place mansion, that open their doors to showcase their unique holiday decors and beautiful interiors. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the weekend of the tour. This includes afternoon tea and refreshments. Tickets can be purchased at Linden Place or by calling the Linden Place office, 253-0390. East Bay Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual event to gather members in celebration of the holiday season while raising donations for those less fortunate. This event promises an evening of good food, live music, and comaraderie! Each year, members look forward to the wonderful raffle items! For the first time, Your Sports Memorabilia will host a silent auction featuring Red Sox, Patriots and other sports memorabilia, Disney prints and autographed music albums. In the spirit of giving, doations of cash and non-perishable food items will be accepted and given directly to Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen and Tap-in. Half of the raffle ticket sales and the silent auction will also be donated to these worthy organizations. [Details >]
